Google Eavesdropping??

Apparently Google has been listening in on my Chat session through Gmail. I like to call it Google Eavesdropping, as if it's a new product or service of theirs. On February 20, 2007 I was talking to my buddy about my newborn baby. I sent him a link to my blog with some pictures and jokingly told him to feel free to click a Google Ad. Here is the exact excerpt...

1:11 PM my buddy: oh csection yeah that takes a while, what was the weight?
there are some pics
8lbs 12.5 ounces
1:12 PM my buddy: yeah thats a good size
1:14 PM me: Ya, he's cute.
1:15 PM my buddy: yeah very nice i'm lokking at the pics now
me: you can feel free to click on some ads. :)

The following day(today), less than 24 hours later, I received an email about my Google Adsense Account Status. Here is the email. In bold are the highlights...

Hello Andrew Spangenberg,

It has come to our attention that invalid clicks have been generated on
the Google ads on your site(s). In the future, we may adjust your
payment for any days during which invalid clicks occurred in order to
properly credit advertisers for any invalid activity.

As a reminder, any method of generating invalid clicks is strictly
prohibited. Invalid clicks include but are not limited to any clicks
that are generated through the use of robots, automated clicking tools,
manual clicks by a publisher on the publisher's own web pages, or a
publisher encouraging others to click on his ads.

If you are clicking on the ads on your web pages for testing purposes,
please note that clicking on your own ads or encouraging others to do
so for any reason is prohibited, due to the potential for inflation of
advertiser costs. Please be assured that there is no need to test the
ads on your site, as our specialists review all of our ads to ensure
that they meet Google's advertising standards.

If you would like to visit the destination of an ad to view its content
or to add it to your filter list, you can use the AdSense Preview Tool,
available here:

https://www.google.com/adsense/previewtool?hl=en_US

The Google AdSense preview tool is an addition to the right-click menu
for Windows Internet Explorer 6.x, allowing you to preview the ads that
may show on any web page. Clicks and impressions from the preview tool
are not applied to the advertiser's account. You can click through to
the target site without worrying about invalid clicks being generated
on your account, and without costing the advertiser for your test
clicks.

If you have any questions, please feel free to reply to this email. We
will be happy to help in any way we can.

Sincerely,

The Google Team

I understand that what I said was violating the terms of services, but I didn't realize that Google was monitoring my Chat Sessions to begin with. Perhaps it's thrown in the TOS somewhere that they filter or read chat sessions, but I had never heard of it.

I haven't been clicking on my own links, and I know Google doesn't listen in to my verbal converstations, so I just figure they sent that email because I told my friend he could click on an ad if he wants to. It's not like I make any real money off of Google Ads anyways. I use it more for analyzing how many people hit my site. I don't need all the details like which pages they went to, and where they came from. Using Google Adsense for this purpose is just easier because I'm almost always logged into Gmail, and Adsense is 2 clicks away.

I did score some dough on my google ads yesterday...Saving up for that Halo 3.
